Vocabulary Mishap

When I was younger I remember a neighbor telling me, "I can see your epidermis!"  I had no clue what he was talking about and worried I was exposing myself until he finally explained.

So, I decided to tell Mary (my 8 yr old niece), "I can see your epidermis!"  After she looked herself over and made sure everything was covered, I explained that epidermis was your skin.  She decided to go tell PawPaw (my dad) her new 'joke'...

She ran up to him and said, "I can see your uterus!"  He looked at me really confused and wide-eyed.  I said, "No Mary-epidermis."  She said, "Oh, then what's your uterus?"  I said, "where a baby is in your belly."  She laughed and said, "I must have heard you or my mom say that.  I got confused."  (Not sure that uterus is a topic of our conversations even if we were pregnant at the same time but whatever.)

A week or so later my sister called and asked if I had introduced epidermis into Mary's vocabulary.  I said, "yes."  She said, "Well, she told me she could see my uterus!"

Oops, maybe that wasn't such a good idea on my part.  I can't imagine what her teacher thinks goes on in our family.

Cherish & Capture the Memories

We stayed at our house over the long MLK holiday weekend.  It was nice being in our house as a family.  But staying at our house triggers the reality that Sissy isn't with us anymore so I spent much of the time crying as the house just isn't the same without her.

She loved napping in the bowl on the coffee table.
She found unique places to hang out.
She loved looking out the window.
She loved to sprawl out on the floor.
She loved sleeping in her mom's bed.
She loved her sister.
I could go on and on...

I'm sure you see by my posts that I take a bunch of pictures.  Well, I started taking video clips on my camera.  I videoed some of the things that Sissy did that always made me smile, such as her routine to tell me she was hungry, playing with Sadie, chasing bugs, etc.  I truly cherish that I have some of these things captured now that she is gone.  Most of the files are too large to upload, but here is a short one of Sadie and Sissy playing.
It's extra tough for me because I felt like it was Sadie, Sissy, and I going through the pregnancy.  Harris was in Tupelo for the majority of the time so it was just us three.  They were there each night when I was waking up to potty, listening to me moan when I was climbing out of bed, or sitting on the couch while I stuffed my face.  Sissy became sick while I was pregnant so I was spending extra time giving her medicine or special food, taking her to vets, and up at night worrying about her.  In a way it was like I was being prepared for caring for a baby/child.  She slept on my chest/baby bump many nights and if not on my chest then snuggled on my pillow.  Now, I have Clayton sleeping in my bed and most nights sleeping on my chest.  I truly think Sissy knew I was pregnant, so it makes me sad that she couldn't meet her sister.
The real reason I wrote this post was to remind everyone to cherish the days with those that you love and snap some pictures (and video tape) of the memories along the way.

(Some of you are thinking that it's absurd that I'm still devastated since it's been 2.5 months since she died and I should be over it.  Well if you are then sadly you haven't had a strong connection to a pet and you're definitely missing out.  And if you think I'm crazy, I don't give a poop.)

Phone Favorites

Here are some of my favorite photos taken on my phone over the past month:

Socks as mittens while in the hospital so she wouldn't scratch her face with her "claws"
Harris' mullet (he's since gotten a haircut)
Sisterly Love- (Our nieces, Mary and Ella)
Sadie made a nest in the pillows while I was gone.
Clayton, the Russian
Her eyes roll back in her head when she's sleeping.
A present I bought for my mom.

Snow Day!

Apparently if you wear your pajamas inside out (including your underwear), sleep with a silver spoon under your pillow, and flush two ice cubes down the toilet, it will snow the next day.  Well, thankfully Mary did this and we're enjoying nearly four inches of snow!
("But don't worry Mimi, I didn't flush the ice cause I didn't want it to stop up your toilet." -Mary)

Month 1

Time has flown by and Clayton is 1 month old today!  It's been a month of bottles, diapers, and interrupted sleep.  It can be repetitive but once I look into her big blue eyes, I'm reassured that she's very much worth it.

1 month old today!

There have been many firsts this month:

1st trip in the car after coming home from the hospital to go to the doctor.  (L to R- Clayton, Mary & Ella)

1st real bottle
(as opposed to the ready-to-feed plastic bottles from the hospital)
1st time in her crib

1st booger
1st real bath
(She hated the sponge baths that we gave her before her cord fell off.  She would scream bloody murder.  She also screamed when her diaper was changed....thank goodness this phase has passed.)
Watched her 1st LSU game (Cotton Bowl)

Charlie Bit Me Video

Even though this video is old, I just discovered it and think it's cute so I thought I'd pass it along.  My mom says I was a biter when I was little so I probably won't think it's very funny if Clayton starts biting me.  But until then...
