Colorado- Day 1 (Saturday, Sept. 17)

My aunt and uncle have a timeshare in Snowmass, Colorado and kindly invited our family to come spend a week.  I have to admit that I was extremely apprehensive about taking my 9-month old: 

1) on a plane 

2) on a vacation that involves hiking, the outdoors, and her behaving in nice restaurants

3) without Harris as he didn't think he wanted to come

Colorado in the summer is my absolute favorite vacation.  And with a little insisting by my parents, I came to my senses and decided I only live once and that it would be better to sit in a fabulous condo looking at the most gorgeous landscape rather then sitting at home.

And at the last minute (the day prior), Harris decided that he didn't want to miss out on the fun and got his plane ticket flying out of Nashville.

(Let me preface our pictures with.....Clayton decided to bail off the bed on Friday prior to our trip.  What started out as a slight red mark on her nose turned into a large carpet burn scab.  So Rudolph replaced Clayton for the trip.)

Saturday, departure day, started bright and early to make our flight.

It was Clayton's first time on a plane and her mom was VERY nervous.

  The first flight from Memphis to Denver was about 2.5 hours.  I was a relieved mom when she fell asleep as we were taking off. 

She woke up about 45 minutes before we landed and surprisingly behaved like an angel.  Her and Ella played in the Denver airport during our layover.

Then the downfall part of the day began.  We boarded the plane to Aspen and then were delayed an hour due to the weather in Aspen.  We had the option of getting off the plane and reboarding or just waiting in our seats.  Clayton fell asleep so we just stayed put.  Then we took off but the pilot said they are doing construction on the Aspen airport and it makes it more difficult to land.  He attempted to land in Aspen but we due to the poor weather we ended up having to fly into Vail, Colorado and bus to Aspen.  Not what I wanted to hear while flying with my baby for the first time.  But she surprisingly slept for half of the bus ride and acted pretty well for the rest.

It was a long travel day but we were thrilled to be in Colorado!
